Two of Montreal’s hottest talents: Jordan Gardner and Martyn Bootyspoon join forces on propulsive new single “Doubletap”, OUTLIER’S first new music since 2023’s stellar collaboration “Fold” by Bonobo and Jacques Greene.

“The vocal samples on ‘Doubletap’ were originally voice notes from a friend who makes pop records,” explains Gardner. “Bootyspoon and I had just worked together on the title track Rhythm Acceleration from my previous EP, and I love his style of ad libs on dancefloor tracks. He's a really good producer so he understands exactly how to let his vocals sit. We recorded his vocals in Jacques Greene’s studio. Then it was mixed down by my friend Francis – a hitmaker in Montreal that goes by Priori.” Bootyspoon – in typically poetic style – adds, “When Jordan asked to feature my vocals on his stellar deep-jack track, I agreed. Its late-night allure allowed me to transpose the instrumental from a Basic Instinct church-rave scene to a Hype Williams nightclub”.

Speaking on the meaning of “Doubletap”, Gardner says, “I had just moved to Montreal and was injured in a wheelchair, so I was observing the music scene online as I was unable to experience it directly,” recounts Jordan. “The chorus <<Like The Way You Move>> is actually a social commentary for the way music is consumed online, and the name ‘Doubletap’ is literally the act of validating and liking something online, insinuating you like the way [they] move… [you] like the way [they] purvey their thoughts online.”

Jordan connected with Jacques Greene in Montreal’s fertile electronic underground and “Doubletap” quickly made its way into his rotation, popping up during a b2b with Bonobo at Piknic Électronik in 2022,  Bonobo’s ears pricked up immediately, track IDs were shared and introductions were made. “Later that night we all went for dinner and Si and I were talking about the kind of music we're into and I emailed the track to him,” Gardner recalls. “A few months later he sent me a video of him playing ‘Doubletap’ at Printworks and we've kept in touch ever since. He brought me on board to play his OUTLIER showcase at Piknic in Montreal last year. Super grateful to work with such talented people and for this track to have such a great home.”
